Surf Teaching
General information
- TPSS is a school specialized in surf teaching for all levels (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced) and for all ages*.
- TPSS provides all necessary equipment for surfing practice.
- TPSS collaborates with experienced surf instructors who are knowledgeable of teaching locations and accredited by FPS.
- Acknowledgment of Risk: Surfing is an inherently risky activity. By enrolling in a lesson or renting equipment, students acknowledge the risks involved and agree to follow all safety instructions provided by TPSS instructors.
- All surf lesson students are covered by the surf school insurance with Allianz, you can request more info by our official channels.

* TPSS recommends a minimum age of 6 years.
Surf classes
- Classes at TPSS are carried out in groups or individually (Private lessons).
- The surf lessons have a max of 5 people per group and are about 2 hours depending on the ocean conditions, this includes the warm-up, briefing, safe rules, and surfing.
- Teaching location: Tiago Pires Surf School has 3 locations: Praia do Matadouro, Praia do Sul, and Praia da Fonte da Telha.
- TPSS works with a maximum of 5 students per instructor in the group classes to ensure a safer and more personalized service, focused on high-quality surf teaching.
Booking & Schedules
- Classes can be booked directly at the school, on the website, by email, or by phone/Whatsapp.
- Online bookings must be done with a 24-hour notice, by the official channels.
- Online bookings will receive a confirmation as soon as possible, with a max of 24h response.
- Bookings require a 30% or a minimum 30€ signal of the total amount in question to be validated. The remaining amount must be paid before the beginning of the 1st lesson.
- For first registrations, TPSS requires the following data for personal insurance activation: First and Last name; Date of birth; Nationality; Surf level; Email, and Phone number.
- Class schedules are communicated in person at the school, or via text message/email message/website till one week in advance.
- The communication of classes by text message/email message is available to all TPSS students/ clients who have their situation properly regularized with the school.
- The communication of classes by sms/e-mail message requires the confirmation of the student/ client within the designated time in the message, to validate his presence in classes.
- TPSS class schedules are dependent on tidal hours.
- Classes are dependent on weather and sea conditions.
- In case of adverse conditions, classes will be rescheduled and new dates and times will be communicated by sms/e-mail.
Insurance
- Student Accident Insurance: All participants in TPSS surf lessons are covered by Allianz accident insurance. This insurance covers medical expenses for injuries sustained during the lesson, for both the student and anyone accidentally injured by the student during the lesson. You can ask for more details on the insurance, it will be given by our official channels.
- Please note that pre-existing medical conditions may not be covered by Allianz insurance. We recommend students review the policy details or consult with customer service directly for clarification.
Payment of Classes
- Classes can be paid in cash directly at the school, or by bank transfer to the IBAN: PT50 0010 0000 4843 8690 0025 8 (Banco BPI, SA) – Ericeira location; and IBAN: PT50 0010 0000 62932430001 61 (Banco BPI, SA) for Fonte da Telha.
- Payments made by bank transfer require transfer confirmation sent to: surfschool@tiagopires.pt or fontedatelha@tiagopires.pt.
- Tiago Pires Surf School does not guarantee change on cash payments above 200€, nor will accept cash on coins below 1€ value.
- The lesson packages bought are valid to be used for 6 months, starting from the day of purchase.
- TPSS requires the submission of tax data for receipt/invoice issuance.
- TPSS accepts and prefers card payment, we do not accept American Express Card Payments or checks.
- TPSS uses secure methods for online payments to ensure customer privacy.
- All amounts charged by TPSS are subject to VAT.
No-show, Cancellation, and Rescheduling
No-show:
- No-shows, defined as absences without prior notice, will result in full charges for the booked lesson or service.
Advance Cancellation (24 hours):
- Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled lesson start time to allow for efficient scheduling adjustments.
- Cancellations made within this timeframe will receive a full refund (100%).
Same-Day Cancellation:
- Cancellations made on the day of the lesson are subject to a fee of up to 75% of the total cost. This is to cover operational costs and ensure the efficiency of the service.
Rescheduling:
- Changes to reservations are subject to availability. We recommend that any adjustments be communicated in advance to ensure the best possible assistance. In case of not finding any time available, TPSS will refund 100% of the money to reschedules made by official communications channels within 24 hours in advance. Anything with less than 24 hours will be considered a cancellation on the same day.
Weather Conditions and Safety:
- Tiago Pires Surf School reserves the right to cancel lessons in case of adverse weather conditions or for safety reasons. In such situations, clients will be informed as soon as possible and reimbursed if necessary.
Refunds:
- Full or partial refunds for cancellations made within the 48-hour window will be processed by bank transfer within a maximum of 21 working days.
- To facilitate the refund process, please provide your complete bank account information when requesting a refund.
RENTALS
These terms and conditions apply to the use of any high-performance board, hard top board, soft board, wetsuit, surfboard fin, neoprene shoes, or any other equipment provided by Tiago Pires Surf School for surfing or any other water sport.
1. Use of equipment
1.1 – the user agrees to use the equipment only for its intended purposes and by any instructions provided by the provider.
1.2 – the user acknowledges that surfing or any other water sport is a dangerous activity, and the user assumes all risks associated with using the equipment.
2. Fees for damaged equipment
2.1 – the user agrees to pay a fee to the provider for any equipment that is broken, damaged, or lost during the use of the equipment. The fee shall be as follows:
- High-performance board: maximum fee of 600 euros
- Hard top board: maximum fee of 400 euros
- Softboard: maximum fee of 300 euros
- Wetsuit: maximum fee of 150 euros
- Surfboard fin: maximum fee of 100 euros
- Neoprene shoes: maximum fee of 40 euros
2.2 – the provider may, at its sole discretion, waive or reduce the fee for damaged equipment.
3. Payment
3.1 – the user agrees to pay the fee for any damaged equipment immediately upon demand by the provider.
3.2 – the user authorizes the provider to charge the user’s credit card or any other payment method on file for the amount of the fee for any damaged equipment.
4. Surfing Conditions
No Guarantees on Waves: The rental of equipment does not guarantee specific wave conditions. Customers are responsible for checking forecasts and understanding the variability of wave quality. Tiago Pires Surf School (TPSS) is not responsible for customer dissatisfaction with wave conditions.
5. Returns During Rental Period
Early returns of rented equipment will not be subject to a refund. Rental fees cover the entire designated rental period (e.g., hourly, half-day, full-day) as chosen by the customer.
6. Release and indemnification
6.1 – the user releases and waives all claims against the provider arising from the user’s use of the equipment.
6.2 – the user agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the provider, its affiliates, and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any and all claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from the user’s use of the equipment.
7. Entire agreement
7.1 – this agreement constitutes the entire agreement between the provider and the user and supersedes all prior agreements and understandings, whether written or oral, relating to the subject matter of this agreement.
7.2 – no amendment or modification of this agreement shall be valid or binding unless in writing and signed by both the provider and the user.
By using the equipment, the user agrees to be bound by the terms and conditions of this agreement. If the user does not agree to these terms and conditions, the user may not use the equipment.
